Happy Global Running Day!
This year, more than ever, we need Global Running Day!
What is Global Running Day?
Global Running Day is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving. This day plays an important role, reminding us of the positives that running can offer and the power of unification. It's mission seems more important than ever right now, as people everywhere attempt to stay active and healthy. During these challenging times, many people are turning to running as a solution to help release anxiety, gain perspective, cope with cabin fever, and keep up wellbeing.
Our physical Global Running Day events may be paused, but it’s important that we all keep active in a safe and responsible way. This year, Global Running Day 2020 will be digitally uniting people across the world in a global effort to encourage physical wellness and strengthen community.
We had not gone on a before breakfast morning run in a very long time as Ruth Anne continues her recovery and healing from PANDAS. She required a lot of sleep and needed to have breakfast so she could take her medication. We knew it was going to warm up very quickly today. Ruth Anne suggested that we set the alarm for 7:30, have water and a banana and head out the door to our newly renovated Reservoir.
It was overcast and I wondered which glasses to take. Ruth Anne said if I took my sunglasses it would probably rain so instead I took my clear glasses. Sure enough the sun came out!
It took over a year for the renovations of our little Reservoir to be finished and oh was it worth the wait. They have signs to have runners go in only one direction. The paths are smooth with gravel and the landscaping is magnificent.
During our run we ooh'ed and aah'ed about the changes to this space that were made for both conservation and beauty.
We talked about the gift of running in our lives for our health and well being and took time to notice and capture the scenes of our morning run:
I was particularly in awe of the angel slides:
And of course we stopped to take the obligatory selfie:
When we returned home after our 3.25 miles, we took out our tray that we hadn't used in a few years to load it up with a post run breakfast. We each commented how delicious food tastes after a run especially when we can relax in our beautiful yard after a morning run.
I encourage each and every one of you to get out in the fresh air and celebrate Global Running Day whatever the distance and whatever the pace and whatever the day.
Movement is vital to our mental health and well being and when we run with our hearts united as a global community, we heal ourselves and our world.
